The Executive Director of the Tourism Promotion Council, Muhammad Al-Mansour, has warned of the continuous sabotage and destructive acts of the environmental and biological diversity of the archipelago of Socotra Island by the powers of the coalition of aggression and the Saudi-UAE occupation.

Al-Mansour demonstrated that among the most prominent acts of sabotage, besides building camps and transmitting large numbers of tourists cause the detriment of its ecosystem, the random erosion of coral reefs, the unsustainable export of fish wealth, the introduction of non-indigenous species to the island and the looting of other species from their original habitat of rare plants and birds.

The Executive Director of the Tourism Promotion Board called on UNESCO to play its part and consider its responsibilities and ethical obligations to ensure the protection of the distinctive ecosystem, vegetation cover, the unique marine and biological diversity of the island as a protected natural world heritage.

Al-Mansour called on organizations occupied in saving the natural heritage and the fans and supporters of Socotra and its distinguished sons to spout these violations and stop all destructive activities in the Socotra Archipelago, especially activities that negatively affect wildlife, unique landscapes, and the environment.

He has manifested his concern about the presence of the Zionist entity on the island, especially after the Emirati occupation declared normalization with the Zionist entity.

He also requested for the rapid assessment of the effects resulting from the sabotage and destructive actions of the Saudi-Emirati aggression and occupation.

Al-Mansour has pointed out the importance of the island as an unusual sight that is classified as one of the most fascinating regions in the world, with the great diversity it contains in its plants, it's land and marine environment and the proportion of endemic species it contains. This content includes 73% of plant species (out of 528 species), 90% of reptile species and 59% of wild snails species found only on it and not found in any other parts of the world.

As for the birds, the place hosts important species at the global level (291 species, 44 of them breed on the islands, while 58 of them migrate regularly), including some endangered species.

Marine life in Socotra is characterized by great diversity, with the presence of 352 species of coral, which build the reefs, 730 species of coastal fish, and 300 species of crabs, lobsters, and shrimps.
